Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent common diseases in Germany and estimations of the United Nations have clearly defined it as a global threat to humanity. With its complex appearance due to various genetic and environmental factors involved new research approaches need to be established to develop individualized prediction, prevention and treatment in people and patients. Interdisciplinary and translational research projects are enabled through joint efforts of the Helmholtz Diabetes Center and the Alberta Diabetes Institute each focusing on different aspects of development, progression and therapy of diabetes and its various secondary diseases.
