Ombudspersons for Graduate Students

Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI)

Graduate students enrolling in the HRD through the Alberta Diabetes Institute belong to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Alberta, giving them access to the Office of the Student Ombuds for services and advice related to conflict resolution. Further details can be found here.

Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC)

Graduate students entering the International Helmholtz Research School for Diabetes from Helmholtz Zentrum München are integrated in HELENA, where ombudspersons may be contacted in case of conflict between PhD students and their advisors. Ombudspersons are designated impartial individuals who mediate in cases of conflict and all conversations are strictly confidential. The ombudspersons are nominated by all PhD students of HELENA and are elected for a term of two years.

Trainee Associations

Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC)

The Doctoral Students' Initiative (DINI)  is a free association of graduate students that organizes activities of the graduate students' community, connects between management and graduate students in all affairs and provides information for graduate students at the Helmholtz Zentrum München. Their Welcome Team offers support in orientation at the Helmholtz Zentrum München and in the city Munich to all new graduate students. Moreover, they organize social activities and PhD get togethers for the graduate students' community.

Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI)

The Trainee Working Group (TWG) at the Alberta Diabetes Institute is made up of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows that allow trainees more representation and involvement in Institute activities and help identify training opportunities that are important for career development. The intent is to have a diverse group of 5-7 trainees that represent the various research areas and pillars of ADI. The TWG will select one representative to attend the monthly meeting of ADI´s Research Coordinating Committee where ideas from trainees can be brought forward. They will also offer support for new trainees and exchange students beginning their programs at ADI.
